LED ZEPPELIN fan-site Lemon Squeezings reported that AEROSMITH guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford have apparently been keeping busy with ERIC CLAPTON and Jimmy Page (LED ZEPPELIN) in a recording studio with engineer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, IRON MAIDEN). About the supposed "supergroup" project, Shirley has addressed the rumours:
"There's no supergroup planned with fifty guitarists recording, I'm sorry. If you believed that, go on and blush. Over my long career I have been very fortunate to work with some of the best in the world, and soon I'm going to record one of the pioneers. That's what's so exciting! But, as I said before, news when I can. The "supergroup" is just a four piece, and we have an exploratory recording session early next year. And that's all."
Spiritech of PyroMusic.net recently conducted an interview with JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
PyroMusic.net: So Rob, why did you decide to record a Christmas-themed album?
Rob Halford: Yeah, I mean, the Christmas time is just as important a time for me as it is for a lot of people and I just love the atmosphere and the enjoyment and the eating, the drinking and obviously the music that's associated with Christmas as well. So for me, for as long as I can remember when I was a little kid I've always liked every aspect of Christmas time and especially the music. So I've slowly but surely got around to doing it for the first time ever in my career. It's out now and the general feedback has been absolutely fantastic from all the metalheads.
PyroMusic.net: Were you expecting any kind of backlash or criticism from some metal fans for doing something like this?
Rob Halford: Well, to be honest, I don't really care these days about criticism. I mean, I used to when I was a younger man in music, I thought that the critics, you know, were that important in terms of dictating where the reaction might come and how it might affect you. But I realize now that a critical point of view is just one person's bit of feedback, so I just go ahead and make the music that I enjoy making and I've had a pretty long career doing what appears to be the right thing. So this is just another opportunity to express myself in a slightly different way. It is an unusual record, but metalheads celebrate Christmas like everybody else and they obviously listen to some kind of music through the Christmas holiday time, so this is my effort and like I said, so far, so good.
PyroMusic.net: Were you at all inspired to do this project by TWISTED SISTER, whose own Christmas album a few years back was quite successful?
Rob Halford: I think it's really cool that Dee (Snider) and the lads, who I've known for a long time made that record. I think it just shows you again that there's loads of people that enjoy that interpretation of some of the Christmas songs that we like. Of course, we in the HALFORD band tried to keep it in the same kind of texture and atmosphere musically that most people associate my work with. So I think this is a little bit more serious than Dee's record. I love Dee's record, I think it's brilliant, but I think that territory's been covered sufficiently now with that type of style and approach and it's been a real success for him. Obviously, it's done well, so it means that there's a need for that type of style of Christmas classics interpreted in that way. Of course, with us, we only did five fairly well-known Christmas songs. We did one by Sara Baraeilles, called "Winter Song" and the other four are original tracks from us. So I think our record
has turned out to be quite different from some of the other things that have happened, as they should be. I don't think there's that much room to bump into each other, otherwise we're all going to sound the same, you know? So I think each of us are trying to carve out our own impressions with the way that we've covered some of these fantastic Christmas tunes.
PyroMusic.net: Moving on to JUDAS PRIEST for a moment, I think it's fair to say that "Nostradamus" received a mixed reception. A year or so on from its release, is there anything you'd change about that album or are you still pleased with the final result?
Rob Halford: Yeah, I think it's done close to 750,000 sales (worldwide) and add in the illegal downloads, it's probably done over a million. So I think that's pretty good in today's market commercially, in the business sense of things. For us in the band, it was just a wonderful opportunity to complete an idea that we'd had and we'd talked about for many, many years. Growing up as we did, there were a lot of those types of concept records around in the 70s and we always wondered how we would tackle that kind of endeavour. So "Nostradamus" turned out to be a real satisfying experience for us all. We're still determined at some point to play all of that double CD live in concert. We're having a band meeting this Christmas to figure out what we're going to do next year for PRIEST and hopefully doing something with "Nostradamus" live will be included.
PyroMusic.net: I imagine you've got a pretty expansive and impressive stage show in mind for that then.
Rob Halford: Well, PRIEST is famous for putting on these big shows — the costumes, the lights, the stage sets. Whatever we do with "Nostradamus" has gotta be a solid goal, so it's going to take a lot of thinking and a lot of production. We're going to have to bring in some special crews to talk through all of the different possibilities — and there are many. We can either keep it straightforward where we just stand there and play, but I think that would be letting the side down. 'Cause it's larger than life musically, so we have to put on a full on show. But as soon as we know what we're doing, we'll make an announcement on the PRIEST website.
Wendy Dio, the wife and manager of legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH. NET:
"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.
"Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio.
"Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up."
Ronnie James Dio, 67, has performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He is currently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also includes former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.
DIO cancelled its European tour last week after Ronnie was taken ill. The band's lineup for the trek was supposed to include WHITESNAKE/ex- DIO axeman Doug Aldrich due to the fact that the group's regular guitarist, Craig Goldy, had prior touring commitments with BUDGIE in Australia.
DIO's last release was the "Holy Diver Live" CD, featuring a performance of the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd.

We will close out this leg of the tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 14, where we technically have BEEN before, but two or three of you may remember that unfortunately the show scheduled in 1993 was rained out."

Mar. 05 - Guatemala City, Guatemala @ Estadio Mateo Flores
Mar. 14 - San Juan, Puerto Rico @ Coliseo de Puerto Rico
METALLICA has released details of the concert DVD that the band will issue in Mexico on November 30th. Titled "Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico" or "Pride, Passion, and Glory: Three Nights in Mexico City", the set was filmed in front of 155,000 over three nights at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium on June 4, June 6 and June 7, 2009. According to METALLICA's web site, the DVD/CD package contains a total of 34 songs taken from all three shows, which each had a different set list. Blu-Ray, digipack and deluxe slipcased editions are also available, with full track listings for each available at the METALLICA site.
Interviews with the group in Mexico are also included.
All the credits will be in Spanish and as with the band's newly released French concert DVD, the set will be available only in stores in Latin America and at the METALLICA web site, beginning the week of December 7.
METALLICA plays a few more U.S. shows next month before breaking for the holidays. The band will resume touring in early 2010 with trips to South America and Europe.
WDBJ7.com reports: Dan and Gil Harrington have not seen 20 year old Morgan Harrington now for almost six weeks since she vanished after leaving a METALLICA concert in Charlottesville October 17.
The Harringtons' son is coming to Virginia from New York City for Thanksgiving and the family will have dinner with close family friends. A place Gil Harrington says they always spend the holiday.
"We're always there. It'll be strange not to have Morgan home if she doesn't make it home by Thanksgiving, but that is really our place of celebration and marking that holiday, we'll be there," says Gil Harrington.
The family says they hope someone who knows something will come forward. Again, the tip line is (434) 352-3467.
According to The Pulse of Radio, Rob Zombie told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday (November 24) that he wants his next film as a writer/director to be outside the horror genre. Zombie, who has made four horror movies since 2003, said, "If you go down that road too far, it's hard to break out of it. I don't want to get stuck with anything. I want the freedom to do what I want to do." Zombie's last film, "Halloween II", was released in late August to mostly horrible reviews and lukewarm box office.
Zombie recently said on a conference call with reporters that the movie he hopes to do next might surprise people. "The movies I've made up to this point have been pretty dark and pretty much in that world because those are the opportunities that were presented," he said. "But I'm also working on something now that is not in that world at all. You know, the people that put up the money for these things know that if I stick to that sort of thing, it's easily more profitable. So it's a much bigger challenge to break out of it. But if everything goes according to plan, and the next movie that I want to make is the next movie, people are gonna be shocked as to what it is."
Zombie has been planning to make an action film called "Tyrannosaurus Rex", and has also been named to write and direct a remake of "The Blob", but there's no indication yet of when or if either project will get off the ground.
He was approached to direct 2008's "Punisher: War Zone " but passed. His other films include "House Of 1000 Corpses", "The Devil's Rejects" and "Halloween".
Zombie releases a new solo album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", on February 2. He is currently on the road and stops on Wednesday night (November 25) in Columbus, Ohio.

"So, as you can see, I am true to my word!
"Be sure to check out Net Worth Coffee Brokers too this holiday season, as this is the only time each year that we make up the very special Christmas Blend. This blend of coffee sells out every year, because it is difficult to make, and when I say every year, that means that our roaster sells out, and the amount allotted for us is gone too!
"I deeply want to thank you all for the contributions that you make on each bag of coffee that you buy, as it goes to a good cause, and this year I was able to get $10,000.00 worth of toys to donate to local charities this Christmas. Now that would be enough in most cases, but the good people of Hasbro Toys in Connecticut, have matched me dollar-for-dollar, and now I have $20,000.00 worth of toys that we are going to be distributing to the Children's Hospital in San Diego, the local churches and especially my church I attend in Vista, Cal., to give to the homeless outreach programs we have at North Coast, and last, but not least, to the United States Marines 'Toys for Tots' program; a very noble program that has been around ever since I was born (from what I can remember).
"One of our own Droogs here, Megajeff, has helped me ever since I started doing this and I am eternally grateful for your assistance and your servants heart for these children Jeff.
"Please tune in to Megadeth Radio and keep it tuned in for stories from me, new interviews with Shawn Drover, and next week, we will be trying to add interviews with the three bands on our 'Endgame' tour; MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE, and ARCANIUM.
"In closing, I wanted to thank all of the fans who have been coming out to the shows. I am sorry that some of you have waited and ended up not getting tickets, but there are some places that are still not sold out, and even some cases where we are in the wrong building (too big or too small), but we will fight everyday for you and we will fight this day, especially tomorrow night.
"I think I see a clue in there.
"FINALLY: just to be crystal clear, at the shows we are selling our new 'Endgame' record, and because our research shows that it is not being stocked in many of the music stores around the States (which I think is counter-intuitive if one wants to sell records, but I am semi-smart and if you want things done right, DIY, right?), we are giving out aftershow passes of a sort for you to meet me and one of the guys after the show. When you buy a copy of 'Endgame' at the shows we will gladly sign your new 'Endgame' record, but there are also some requests we AND the building would like to make.
"You see, I have to pay for the security to stay late to protect us, to protect you, and to keep the building secure. If I take a picture with everyone (especially the people who don't know how to use their own stupid cameras), and sign everything that everyone has, we will not get out of the building without paying more money than we would even make from selling the CDs. I am trying every way that I can to treat you right, yet every night someone will come up to me and bitch because we are not taking pictures. That, or we are not signing the thirty cards they bring, or a sweaty guitar pick, or WHATEVER!!!
"I just don't get it. We are done, we are tired, we are hungry, we still put you ahead of us, and yet that is still not good enough for some of the people in the lines; and this is just the way some people act. I know some of you have driven a long way, and I know some of you have had sick boyfriends or girlfriends, or you've had someone die, or whatnot. With all due respect . . . NO PICTURES AND ONE AUTOGRAPH PER PERSON PER RECORD.
"Simple, right?
"So please, understand that if you come through the line after the show and you are with someone and think that entitles you to more stuff from us, that is not what we are doing here, if you want to take pictures and you haven't gotten enough after 90 minutes of me playing right in front of you, well then, you will prolly never get enough photos. That doesn't change the fact that we are not going to be doing it, and by asking, you put us all in an awkward position of having to tell you 'NO.' And I don't want to say 'no' to y'all ever. But you know I will, if I have to.
"Here's a practice one, 'Hey, Dave, I drove three months from Iceland underwater in a whale's bladder, and I need you to sign this captains hat I got from my great grandfather who was named Davey Jones. He couldn't come because his wife is delivering a litter of sea lions, and . . . . ' * tires screeching*
"And I say, 'NO!'
"Or, 'I am getting deployed tomorrow,' to which I would say, 'Really, what branch,' and you say, 'Well, its the Royal Princess Cruises, BUT I am still getting deployed!'
"I guess if you really took to heart that we are saying 'no pictures, one autograph only per person' for really good reason — and that is, if you can't do what we ask and what we need to be able to do this safely and to have fun, then we prolly won't be able to do it much longer.
"The music industry as we know it will probably be gone within the next five years, for sure within the next ten, and all of these people who treated the bands like crap, and cheated or stole from them, who ruined lives of the families attached to the band members, that played craps with these people's lives, with their lying and their laziness, and I for one am finding this very bittersweet.
"I am off to bed now, and we are going to be able to start our show tomorrow with the opening songs that I have wanted to do since we started this new tour. Of course there will prolly be some mistakes, because it will be the first time that I play it tomorrow night, let alone try to sing it.
"After tomorrow night, there are only a few songs left to work into the set and we will have effectively boosted our repertoire for the 'Endgame' tour.
"I will have some crap news to post in a few days once we get the final answer; you see, it looks like we are going to pass on the great idea for the summer that was presented to us, with terms that were not satisfactory for us to conduct our business the way that we wanted to, and the way that we NEED to in order to deliver the goods to you.
"I told you that I am happy right now. I am not going to jump at something just because it looks like the right thing to do. I would LOVE to do something like what we were all hoping this summer, but only under fair terms. I am not servile or scraping, and as one of God's kids (even though I am one of the more naughty ones), I crawl before no one."
Rock My Monkey recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH and current F5/HAIL! bassist David Ellefson. During this chat, Ellefson discussed his involvement in the new Christmas project NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA, among other topics.
The interview is now available for streaming using the audio player below.
Ellefson performed with NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA in Phoenix, Arizona on April 17, 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre. The show was filmed for a DVD, entitled "The Spirit Of Christmas". Ellefson also played bass on the NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA album, which was released in on VSR/EMI.
Commented Ellefson: "Musically, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA has some killer shredding combined with technical and theatrical arrangements ala QUEEN meets 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Definitely something outside the box and is a lot of fun, and challenging at the same time."
According to the project's bio, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA highlights majestic, orchestrated rock music featuring soaring vocals, incredible guitar solos worthy of true "guitar hero" status, and pounding rhythms sure to impress and invigorate the baby boomer generation that grew up on what is today classic rock!
Combined with the talents of executive producer and longtime record mogul Russ Regan, (responsible for over 800 million record sales with such artists as Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Barry White as well as soundtracks such as "Flashdance" and "Jesus Christ Superstar"), NLO is slated to become a seasonal live performance and recording entity that provides the very best in entertainment!
The brainchild of remix keyboardist/ writer Brian Stewart (BACKSTREET BOYS, ROBERT PLANT, HALL & OATES, POE) and produced by industry veteran Ken Mary (HOUSE OF LORDS, TRIK TURNER, ALICE COOPER, BEACH BOYS), NLO is designed to create a total musical experience combining the powerful drama of Webber and Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar" with the emotionally moving musical styles of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, YES, and KANSAS.
Vocalists and musicians appearing on NLO have been responsible for the sale of over 200 million albums worldwide and include members and former members of household names such as the BEACH BOYS, SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE, ALICE COOPER, SURVIVOR, STEELY DAN, FIREHOUSE, MEGADETH, SISTER SLEDGE, QUIET RIOT, VANILLA FUDGE, WINGER, BOB CARLISLE, GUNS N' ROSES, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, KISS, HOUSE OF LORDS, and WHITESNAKE, just to name a few.
Live performances highlight a spectacular light and video presentation, theatrical movements, as well as incredible musicianship all assembled to tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.

U.K.'s Rock Sound magazine reported earlier today (note: the article has since been removed from the web site) that members of FALL OUT BOY , EVERY TIME I DIE and ANTHRAX have teamed up to form the metal side-project THE DAMNED THINGS.
The band is said to include FALL OUT BOY guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley; EVERY TIME I DIE vocalist Keith Buckley and ANTHRAX guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano. The group, whose lineup is rounded out by bassist David Karon, has reportedly written more than 15 songs and plans to hit the studio before Christmas to begin recording its debut album.
Trohman reportedly stated about THE DAMNED THINGS: "Scott's right hand is the reason I got into playing punk rock, hardcore and metal! Having Keith as part of the mix is insane, we all know he writes incredible lyrics but he is also a really good singer. That is showcased in EVERY TIME I DIE, but we want him to go more into singing than screaming on this project."
According to Rock Sound, Ian added: "We just started working on songs together and I really dug it. It just felt really good. From there we decided that obviously both of us are pretty busy in our day jobs but let's see what we can do with this. Even if it takes us five years to make a record, why not? It's super fun and it's something that we do totally take seriously because we love the music we've created. People think of FALL OUT BOY and they think of Pete Wentz and Patrick. These two guys, man, they're fucking hardcore dudes. Joe writes some amazing riffs. We have this song called 'A Great Reckoning' that, I swear to God, this song could be on any THIN LIZZY record. He fucking blew my mind with this song and I just can't wait for people to hear it."
Former KISS/current GRAND FUNK RAILROAD guitarist Bruce Kulick will release his new solo album, "BK3", in Europe on January 29 via Frontiers Records. The CD will be made available in North America on February 16 through Twenty 4 Records/Rocket Science Ventures.
If you ever play Six Degrees of Bruce Kulick, the guitarist's résumé will keep you happily busy for hours. Having been tapped by artists as diverse as Meat Loaf and Kanye West , the veteran axeman's boundless creative energy permeates his third solo LP, "BK3". In the works for nearly six years and produced by Jeremy Rubolino, "BK3" delivers explosive hard rock arrangements and addictive pop melodies that honor both Kulick's singular past and bright future. And then there's the jaw-dropping guest list, boasting members of KISS, THE KNACK, TOTO, MÖTLEY CRÜE and more.
"Bruce was to KISS what Ronnie Wood is to the STONES," says Rocket Science GM & Fanboy Enterprises A&R executive Ken Gullic. "The new guy to one generation, and the long-standing stable horse to another."
After getting his solo feet wet with 2001's "Audio Dog" and 2003's "Transformer" , Kulick — the often unheralded driving force on 12 years of classic KISS records, from 1984's "Animalize" to 1992's "Revenge" — assembled his own rock 'n' roll dream team. The roster: KISS icon Gene Simmons and up-and-coming son Nick (each vocally appearing separately), longtime friend John Corabi (MÖTLEY CRÜE, Kulick's own UNION), KNACK mainman Doug Fieger, TOTO axe authoritarian Steve Lukather, EDGUY power metal stalwart Tobias Sammet and even current KISS drummer Eric Singer.
"Many albums lack cohesion with different vocalists, but I know that my guitar playing is the glue on 'BK3'," Kulick says. "There was the clear goal of making absolutely the best record that I could put together. I feel like this is my 'Revenge'."
