MusiciansLiveNow

It's great to find a site for videos only, since the other music sites are song oriented, they don't pay much attention to videos. Seeing it while you listen adds soooo much to a song I think. Thanks for having the vision and taking the time to create this site for our videos.

Right on Duane... I'm considering deleting my YouTube account. Way too much advertising which distracts from the videos. Embedding videos from here is cleaner and I find run smoother on slow computers too.
One thing I do like about YouTube is "Insight" but just for the time line report. Here you can see your total views but it's hard to track responses to the links you post... Small price to pay though. I'd rather have my performance be viewed without distraction.

Thing is... Your videos are linked to this site from YouTube. Upload them directly here, then you can link or embed to other sites like MySpace, Your blog, Facebook... etc.

Whoa…Those are some pretty powerful words there Whozzo. Thank You for that statement! Although I truly appreciate your comment and am very flattered by it, I would not recommend that you cancel your YouTube account as I am sure you agree it has a lot of other things to offer in addition to music. YouTube, as you know, is a very incredible website with many bits of information.

While we at MLN are not trying to be the next YouTube, our vision was to have a place for musicians to go and share their musical talents! We are music themed and we are also very proud of that because we cater to ALL ages and families to enjoy.

You are absolutely right about your comment though that if you “Upload them directly here on MLN, then you can link or embed to other sites like MySpace, Your blog, Facebook... etc.” We at MLN couldn’t be happier about that! However, that may be impossible for some since our site will only allow up to 100Mb of maximum space for a video upload. Today’s high pixel cameras use up Mb space like crazy. Unless you are familiar on how to shrink your video file size down to like 8 Mb’s using a program like Apple I-movie, it may be easier for some to post their videos on YouTube first because of its capabilities to handle some very large file uploads.

Again, MLN’s main goal is just to have a little niche in this world for musicians young and old to enjoy music and share their works with us and with the world!

We still don’t know what the future holds for MLN, as we are still a very new site trying very hard to make it a special place to be for All to enjoy. With so so many members like yourselfs who have contributed to our site in so many ways Jack and Duane, we feel our site is truly headed in the right direction.

And we truly Thank You and ALL our members for that!
With kindest regards,
Stev-o

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy & prosperous New Year! And certainly hope you musicians bring the house down on MusiciansLiveNow.com in 2010!

Peace

Just a little more on the YouTube thing... I recognize it's value to the net and it's diversity is astounding but for the musician it's a better learning tool than one of promotion. Sure, you can post and share your music but the distractions can be a bad thing along with the "related" box which draws people away from your other posts/channel by referring your listeners to a vast array of other similar posts. I know you can now control this feature with embeds but not with direct links. Also, I believe, people are getting too familiar with the format of YouTube and by presenting your art in a different way you get a "bump" in your listeners/viewers mind... It's the "hmmm, this is new" feeling. Oh, and it doesn't hurt if your viewer, even if drawn away, goes to a place where the content has a higher friend to stranger or music to "other stuff" ratio.
By all means this site should stay musician friendly and maybe be restricted or have a separate member designation for fans. I'm also pleased that even the advertising is targeted at musicians... I like tunnel vision. LOL

As for as the "file size" issue... Maybe a forum or group could address the this so that there's acceptable info and guidlines for everyone here. I'm currently using "Icepine Video Converter Pro" for all my media files and "Windows Movie Maker" for the video edits which can downsize the files if that's a problem but I find that a one song video is easily under the 100mb limit. For longer more massive files I use blip.tv. It's a great place to upload whole concerts in a "personal TV channel" format where you can actually control the commercials/advertising and even profit from them if you want.

BTW... I found "Wolfgangs Concert Vault" on here yesterday... Nice site!!!

This is a good community here and should be respected and protected so that it serves the vision which created it... Nice job Stev-o. Let me know if get out of line. ;)
